Pieter Sanders

Pieter Sanders (NL, 1938) studied law at Leiden University. After working as a lawyer for several years, he began working as a corporate lawyer for Willem Sophia coalmine in Kerkrade. From 1971 until 2000 he was in-house counsel for Hoogovens IJmuiden BV, and from 1986 until 2008 he was deputy judge at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. He has held various management positions, including with the Fulbright Alumni Association. Pieter Sanders was married to Marieke Sanders-ten Holte and has two children and five grandchildren.

Marieke Sanders-ten Holte

Marieke Sanders-ten Holte (NL, 1941) studied English and literature at the University of Groningen and the VU University Amsterdam. After working for several years as a teacher and vice principal of the Coornhert Lyceum in Haarlem, in 1994 she was appointed executive director of Stichting Lezen, the national platform for the promotion of reading. From 1987 until 1999 she was a member of the Provincial Council of Noord Holland, and from 1999 until 2004 a member of the European Parliament. She holds various management positions, including chairman of Stichting Reprorecht (the Dutch copyright collecting society), the Wertheimer Fund, and the Cobra Amstelveen Art Award and Supervisory Board member of Stedelijk Museum Schiedam.
